Is CREA Really Fighting?
Is CREA Really Fighting? Blog Transcription
Hey there! Rob Reynar here, well some very disturbing news today in our fight with the Competition Bureau. CREA President Dale Ripplinger from Regina has said to day that we as members will be asked to approve a measure that will allow homes to be listed on the MLS where the seller has the option to basically negotiate offers and do everything on their own. So a little flat fee listing gets the home on MLS, the Realtor steps aside and does nothing else. Well, I don't know what the fight is about then. If CREA is willing to go down that road and allow the Competition Bureau to have their way on that issue, then we might as well open the MLS up. Might as well just turn the MLS system open to whomever, pick you could pay and upload from you own house just like a we list site. You know, we might as well just open it up because basically we're saying to the Competition Bureau, that "yeah we agree it's a closed loop and we agree that we were wrong". So basically in my mind that's CREA saying we were wrong you were right, have at it. Very disappointing news, I think at the end of the day people will hire professionals to do a professional job for them and they'll pay to do it. We've seen that in every service sector in the world. I think the fight here has been misguided because the MLS is not public property. It is not a website driven system. It's a system that existed before the web and I think we're getting a lot of mixed messaging from CREA. I really need CREA to explain this one to its members and why we're going down this road. Love to hear your comments on this, on this really contentious issue, info@robreynar.com, R-E-Y-N-A-R, info@robreynar.com. Talk to you soon, buh bye!
