It's not personal... it's business. Yes it's a cliche saying, but it still has relevance in the Real Estate world. It's the saying most agents use when they send you a low ball offer...

It's not personal... It's Business Blog Transcription

Hey there! Rob Reynar just checking in. I wanna talk some more about offerrs. I wanna talk again about low offers because we have seens some low offers in this market. When a realtor writes a low offer, it is usually followed by the statement, "It is not personal, it's business" and I hear that a lot. We hear that trying to justify a position, "Hey, don't let your people get upset, it's not personal, it's just business." Well I'm here to tell you that sometimes, people do take it personal because it's their home, their personal belongings. It is sometimes the home is a reflection of those people in many cases it's not just a building where they live. It's their home, it's where they raise their kids. It's where they entertain their family and friends, it's where they have Christmas, Birthdays, it is personal to a lot of people and I often think of the Meg Ryan character in "You've Got Mail" when she's battling the empire of Fox Books and she realizes who Fox Books is and she actually likes the guy and you know the story, but the line is," it's personal to me" and I think we need to think about that when we write offers. You know what? Someone might take it personally and I'm here to tell you, if they take it personally you're gonna have a heck of a time negotiating an offer. In fact, there's a good chance you wont have the opportunity to buy the house at all. So, I say think before you write, look at market averages and take a real estate agent's opinion but really look at the numbers. Can we statistically justify the offer where we're going? Then the debate can ensue but try not to make it a personal battle and you'll end up buying the house. Love to hear your comments on this, info@robreynar.com.
