Quick Fix To CREA Fight

I have an idea. What if the Canadian Real Estate Association turned back the clock and reminded people of how things used to be... The public and the Competition Bureau may have forgotten where MLS data comes from..

Quick Fix to CREA Fight Blog Transcription

Hey there! Rob Reynar here checking in. Getting some very interesting comments on the issue of CREA versus the Competition Bureau and the fight that is ensued over the MLS database and the question, should everyone be allowed to put their house on MLS regardless of whether they use the services of a realtor? It's a hot debate, there's people on both sides and frankly there's good arguments on both sides but I think the key really to this is, Who owns the MLS? and I've said before that MLS is not public, it's a membership. If you want access to the MLS you work with a realtor that's the way it currently works and I think people forget why that is the way it is because Realtor.ca came after the MLS system. People are so used to the web now and so used to the information on the web that they forget that where the data comes from is really the most important part of the puzzle. Realtor.ca did not precede the MLS vice versa, MLS came first. So in my mind the solution right now it the short term and this would obviously be a short term solution because I'm in favor of giving the public information for free. The short term solution would be to pull the plug on Realtor.ca. If Realtor.ca went dark tomorrow, the consumer and the Competition Bureau would be reminded of the way it used to be before the web existed and before CREA opened up the amount of information that it did to the public. They don't think they have enough but what they have now might be better than none and so I say the short term solution is to pull the plug on Realtor.ca and let's see how the public reacts to that. I'd love to hear your comments on this, info@robreynar.com, R-E-Y-N-A-R, info@robreynar.com. Talk to you soon, buh bye!
