Condo-security expert Frank Fourchalk shares his tips weekly. “Just because you live in a high- rise doesn’t mean you don’t need a safe room. This fortified room doubles as a safe holding area in the event of a break-in or home invasion.

“You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to renovate to accommodate one. Use something as simple as a bedroom, bathroom, behind bookshelves or even a closet: Simply replace the hollow core door with a 13⁄4-inch solid core exterior door — preferably oak — that swings out from the frame.
